Jim gave me an excellant deal on a 2007 Toyota Matrix way below market value. Friendly , personal service that didn't end with the sale. Highly recommend giving him a try!

the only people I trust with my car

I found auto depot from the chronicle, decided I'd give them a shot since they were nearby also. These guys are fantastic. I've called them up just for advice and they are happy to give it. I take my car in and they've always treated me with honesty and integrity for a very reasonable price I might add. I absolutely do not trust dealerships due to past experience, and these guys are THE BEST ALTERNATIVE, in fact, they are BETTER. Go to auto depot, have a laugh while you wait, don't get scared of the mud or the looks, enjoy a real Austin style business and get yer car fixed right the first time!

Pros: very honest people, hard working, trust worthy

Cons: they aren't nextdoor to my house...

Fortunate Misfortune

Your review Rated 5.0 out of 5.0Rated 5.0 out of 5.0Rated 5.0 out of 5.0Rated 5.0 out of 5.0Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 So Grateful for Fortunate MisFortune & Jims Generous Good Will‎ - ‎ - Today Jim went way, way, way above and beyond what I would expect any car repair or resale shop to do for a total stranger. I was looking for a used, reliable vehicle after wrecking my 1993, 160,000 mile Suburu Legacy Wagon, which I loved. My trusted friend John H. and several others highly recommended Jim and Auto Depot. The first thing I noticed was that Jim didn’t sound at all like a person in the car business. Rather, he sounded more like a highly cultured smooth talkin’ easy listening radio DJ…. a contradiction in other words..Turns out he was, and still is, both. GREAT guy! The next thing I noticed was a lot of mud around the building, and a lot seeming chaos around Jim... No contradiction there. Wrecked cars & fixing wrecked cars = chaos in my book. I would trust a messy shop more then an perfectly tidy and organized one...Next thing I know, at my request, Jim is taking me all the way across town to the salvage yard to make sure my car can’t be repaired, This took about 2 hours of his time. .(.I had recently put $1600 into my car, and the wreck hadn't touched the engine.and I liked my Subee.). But nope, just as others had told me, ..it wasn’t worth fixing. Jim however, was willing to give me more for the salvage on it then either the insurance company or my mechanic had offered Next thing I know, he's showing and selling me on a good looking 92 Toyota Previa Van that will be repaired in 10 days.. the size of which I could really use, for awhile anyway. Meanwhile, he lends me a 93 clean, well running Honda Accord to use at no charge. GREAT I think, what a guy!. Three weeks passed, and the van, which I needed to haul some things to Shreveport, still wasn’t ready due to delays on parts and repairs he had not anticipated. Fortunately, a business associate was willing to use my Accord while I used their truck for the trip. I return from the trip 3 weeks later( that's about 6 weeks with a car that didn't cost me anything, because he gave me full value on the trade- in for the Accord, because legally it was in my name) When I went to pick the van, Jim told me the labor and parts on the van had far exceeded his original estimate by about $1500 but he would still sell it to me for the price he quoted me. GREAT What a guy! He also offered an optional 6 month warranty, and a very generous trade in price when I am ready for a smaller more efficient vehicle, and/ or will sell the van for me..knowing I was only keeping if for around 6 months. At this point, I start to feel a little guilty. Before returning the truck, I wash it, detail it, have the oil changed, and offer him and his wife free massage,(s) because my money is still tight at point of sale. Next thing I know he is offering me free advertising via his ads GREAT...What I guy! … So for a limited time, anyone who spends $1000 or more at Auto Depot, will get a free ½ hour massage. (Offer will end at my discretion, not Jims... GREAT... What a guy! In gratitude and awesome wonder.. Pauline Rubben.

Pros: Extremely generous, trusting, fun, sincere, kind

Cons: Slower then others to deliver,,,muddy

A little unconventional but a great place
Reviewed by Lorin Park on 2009-10-21T04:41:44Z

I bought my subura outback from them 8 months ago. It broke down once because of some kind of electrical problem with the starter. And then right after that something went wrong with the power steering. But both times it was in the shop, Jim gave me a lender car to drive around in. Everything was free under their year long warranty. Basically, I think it's great to find a place that is willing to work with you. If you want the kind of service where people are bending over backwards to serve your every need, then go out and buy a new car from a dealership. I wrote unconventional in the headline because the lender cars look beat up or sometimes they're real busy and Jim asks you to move some cars around for him. And that's a refreshing change from a corporate run business that is only interested in your money. Bottom line, I feel like I've been able to stretch out my money a lot further here than any other place I could take my car to. Thanks, Jim

Took my car elsewhere to get fixed

I had a new clutch put in. They should have put in a new rear main seal at the same time. Not sure if they really did or not. My car was leaking oil sooo badly, that my land lord was threatening to tow my car. But since I still owed a little money for the repair, they didnt want to hear anything from me about any possible problems they might have to fix. I took the car to another shop on the street and they found a loose screw on the motor in less than 5 minutes. They tightened it up at no charge and its been great ever since. Boo Auto Depot and thank you to their neighbor. Auto Depot took (some) of my money and ran! No customer service whatsoever:(

Pros:

Cons: Only interested in the money
