Nyos Charter School Reviews

The quality of academic programs enabled my child to gain many strengths. She is diagnosed with a learning disabilty and the school accomadated my daughter very well.

Extremely hard to gather information about this school. Admissions, Acceptance, Circ, etc. Openings are drawn from a waiting list or a raffle. Had to pull teeth to get that information. Waiting time is so long you cant hold your breath your child will miss a year of school. Not happy with customer service over the phone or in person at NYOS Charter School.

blown away at the lack of security and how easy it is for anything to happen at the lamar campus. Principle seems to be there for you at first when you are in need, but then forgets and begins to muli task and forget you were first in line for wanting help. It's horrible comunication to parents. Kids are never told about anything happening until it's too late. My kids have come home and told me they were sent to the lunch room to clean the entire day when they should have been learning. When a sub comes in, the kids are found all about campus goofing off and the school seems to be falling apart in the last two years.

We have 2 kids at the elementary campus. We have been at this school since last year and have really loved it. I correspond with the teachers literally every day, and this helps the teachers and I have a real team role in the education of my children. My kids have clearly excelled academically since attending NYOS.

This is a small school which I have found very responsive to parents. I have 2 children in middle school there now. They are both involved in extra-curricular activities and are progressing well academically. There are times when the lack of organization overwhelms me, but it doesn't seem to bother the kids or teachers. They have several really great middle and high school teachers who have helped my kids learn a lot. We have no experience with the teachers in the lower grades. They adhere to the State of Texas recommended educational objectives and the kids perform very well on standardized tests even though they haven't bought into one of the 'standard' curricula. The multi-age classrooms have allowed one of my kids to explore his strength as a teacher. He may not ever have recognized that he has this skill without NYOS.

My daughter graduated from NYOS. She was homeschooled until the 5th grade. The school, because of its success, has grown due to demand. This growth has been difficult to manage partly because there were few models to emmulate. The support from the state of Texas has been politically challenging. I was happy overall with my daughter's education. What sets NYOS apart from the regular public school is the responsiveness to parents. I cannot think of a formal learning situation in the Central Texas area that would have been better. Results speak volumes: my daughter received an academic full-ride at a State University. She was very well prepared for a University education. I attribute that, in a substantial way, to her education at NYOS.

We started last Sept. 2007 and have had a great experience. There are some kinks to work out with the merging of the 2 schools but the administration at the McCullough campus has been wonderful. I considered this to be the transition year and looking forward to next year when 2 of my children will attend. I feel confident that my kids are receiving a better education than they were in our old exempl. blue ribbon school. The school has done a great job actually teaching and challenging my above average child.

A few great teachers lost in the disorganization and chaos of the principles and assistants.

NYOS was once a great school; it had a caring involved community working together to create the best experience possible for the kids. However, since the take over and move of the elementary kids to the Magnolia campus it has become a horrible school. I am pulling my kids out.

The academics are good but the student population is very sheltered, a little to sheltered for my child's taste.

Needs a new Principal and better teachers!

Small school with motivated students and dedicated teachers

This school is phenomenon but ever since the new principal came it's changed everything it stood for the new principal does a lousy job on making the children comfortable and many of the fieldtrips and such have been canceled becuase it didn't get the principal's approval. It's become just a regular school without a district It's still alot safer and a good student teacher ratio but I think a private school sounds like a lot more freedom to learn.

Great concept, I am not so impressed with the lack of discipline and disorganization.

The administration here is chaotic and the general atmosphere seems a little harried and frantic. My child enjoyed the diversity of the students but the curriculum was lacking at best.

I have a son who just completed Kindergarten and started 1st grade. We were extremely happy with his first year experience at NYOS. The atmosphere, learning style, teacher, and class size were all great. The learning style is a blend of regular teaching and Montessori style. The school has strict discipine and enofrces uniform. Both of these create a great learning environment.
