Pflugerville Middle School Reviews

I feel that PMS is the best middle school in Pflugerville! It has an extremely diverse campus and the teachers embrace the differences in cultures. They enjoy teaching and it shows in the way they deal with the kids. The administration seems to care about letting the teachers do their job and are there as a support system. As a substitute, I won't take jobs at some Pflugerville schools but it is a joy to come to PMS (my child loves it there, too)!

In 2003 our oldest son entered the 6th grade at Pflugerville Middle School and our middle son is currently entering the 8th grade at PMS. Over all the school has done well in educating our children. Theres always that one teacher that goes the extra mile and really cares about his students ie. ' Mr. Pitch ' ! and then theres the one teacher that shouldn't be teaching if they are that miserable. Also , I would like to add that this school also provides a program for children with dislexia and the teacher of that program , Ms. Winn, is amazing!

The assistant principal has shown a keen awareness of problems my child was having and went out of his way to engage him and try to draw him out. The problems were not behavioral, but social and the principal has been helpful in getting assistance. Also, all of my childs teachers have responded quickly when I contact them and offer insightful feedback about my child.

This school provides AP classes for all levels. The teachers are well diverse in their various fields. We had a rough start in the 6th grade when the school failed to let the parents know that the choir program had been canceled and placed our children in other areas without prior approvel, this caused difficulty in placing children in the right classes for them. The choir program was reinstated the next year and now has a awesome director.

In 2002, this school had way to much violence! I found this school to be slightly hostile to parents and students. Due to the behavior problems within the school, I know the education of the students suffered. This is unfortunate! Until this schools improves I wouldn't send my children here to learn.

One of four middle schools in the district, PMS is distinguished by having the staff with most years of experience. I've found the principal to be knowledgable and caring. Built in '85, the building has been undergoing a much-needed physical make-over, and students have reacted positively to those changes (no more graffiti!). My experience with the pre-AP program has been positive. The school was the winner of the state safety award this year, received for its programs to increase safety, productivity, and morale.

This was our third year in PMS and I must say that with the new principal things are changing. The attitude is more positive in general. There are still a few teachers who were under the previous principal who tend to teach in an overbearing manner and does not see the student as an individual, but again the general atmosphere of the school has improved with the new principal and her new staff. Hopefully, this trend will continue.

PMS has a few very good teachers-teachers who care about the students and are committed to proving them with a good start in school. However, the general attitude of the school toward the students and parents is hostile and adversarial. From the moment my first child started there until my youngest finished there this past year, the students were treated as if they needed to be 'broken'. We had a generally unhappy experience with PMS. Thankfully, the high school is infinitely better! I strongly suggest sending your child to a differnt middle school if at all possible!
