St. Gabriel's Catholic School Reviews

This school is more than an education, it is a home. A true family.

My oldest daughter attended Saint Gabriel's for four years. She is making straight A's in public high school now and I attribute much of her academic success to the years she spent here.

While this school has many positive aspects it might not be the best fit for everyone. The Kinder, 1st and 2nd grades all have excellent teachers. Beyond 2nd grade the academic experience doen't seem to be any greater than public school. Class sizes are 22-24 and the drop out rate each year seems to increase more. The school appears to be stuggeling financially and has recently let go of several teachers. There has been no consistant technology teacher for over seven weeks for the elementary school and no grades posted since March. The school seems to be in a state of flux. New teachers hired in the past seem to have very little teaching experience and as is the case in most private schools no teaching certificates are required.

I strongly disagree with a previous review. I have two kids in school, grades K and 4. My kids are happy, the teachers are very professional, and the level of education is much better then in any public school I had experience with. By the way there were only 17 kids in each Fourth Grade class this year. Also never had any problems with viewing grades on school's web site. They were updated every 2-3 days. We absolutely love the school!!!

Accelerated curriculum rich with art/drama (especially), music, physical education & spiritual programs. Technology integrated into lessons (laptops/portable data storage). Often all subjects will focus on a subject & lesson integrated to all areas of study. Variety of sports offered, top level teams have outstanding coaches & can do personal training for a fee. Athletic Director is outstanding individual. Caveat: some overly strict faculty bordering on unapproachable at times, work load in & out of class intense on middle school students/teachers (particularly Social Studies teacher with a college level curriculum that is stressful for students), frequent donations of food, time & money requested, not a very diverse population. Sports program tends to have small teams and fewer games, low student attendance. Not for quiet, easily flustered or perfectionist students.

This school is excellent. We enrolled my boyfriends little brothers here and ever since we walked in the door I have noticed that the staff was extremely nice and the education there is beyond what you would expect.

All three of my children were enrolled in St. Gabriel's from the moment the doors opened. Truly one of the finest school's in Central Texas and worth every penny. Stellar staff, highly trained and nuturing faculty along with state of the art facilities. The leadership of the school is second to none!
