Brentwood Elementary School Reviews

I love living in the Brentwood/Crestview neighborhood, with one exception: sending my child to Brentwood Elementary School. I have been incredibly disappointed by both teachers and administration at Brentwood. My child will not be attending Brentwood next year. I have attended information sessions at several other elementary schools in the area and have been shocked at how far Brentwood lags behind them. I place blame with the principal, who seems content with marginality. The PTA tries to make things better, but without the support from neither principal nor teacher, their efforts are stopgap, at best. There is great potential at Brentwood, it is an up and coming neighborhood that boasts many excellent qualities. But I am not willing to sacrifice my child's education in the meantime.

Brentwood is one of the best kept secrets. The teachers are there for the kids. I can personally vouche for them. I have a child in high school now who at one time was way below grade level in reading. They work with my child until he was caught up. I also have another child there now and the teacher devotion is still there. We use the life skills at home that are practiced at school. There are a few active parent volunteers that are really there for the kids. We also enjoy the box tops store. We are so glad the parent has kept this going over the years. It seems to get better and better each year.

My child is in kindergarten it was a rough start at the beginning of the school year. New teachers came in and students got pulled from classes into the new class. Over all the school is great! Great people, Great parents and wonderful community. Security could be better at the school. More parents and visitors need to make sure and check in at the office every time you enter the school. I feel that needs to be inforced more. I'am very happy my child attends Brentwood elmetary in Austin Tx.

At the heart of the Brentwood and Crestview neighborhoods, Brentwood Elementary is one of the best kept secrets in Austin. Brentwood was built in 1951 and hasn't changed much since then. The classrooms are quaint, the teachers are friendly and communicative, and the administration is extremely pleasant to work with! We love Brentwood for their commitment to building community both in and outside of the classrooms. The emphasis on lifeskills (like integrity, honesty, courage, etc) and the Tribes curriculum have spilled over into our daily home life. We also love Brentwood's diversity, both economic and racial, and the extra mile that the teachers and staff put it to build bridges across the divide.

I transferred my 7-year-old son from an elitist private school to Brentwood in 2000. He was angry, sullen, withdrawn, and soured on school thanks to his past experience. The amazing teachers at Brentwood not only brought him back on track, they transformed him into the exemplary student he was capable of being. They did more than encourage and enable him to shine academically; they taught him to excel socially, to make friends, express himself truthfully and articulately, and work through conflicts to the lessons waiting on the other side. They created and enforced reasonable limits, but they never judged or condemned. My son is now an honor student who has excelled three years in a row in the Middle School Magnet Program, and is already planning to attend an Ivy League School. I truly believe we owe his success to Brentwood's four years of love and care. God bless this school!

Brentwood is a great school with a nurturing staff. Learning is hands-on and the philosophy there is to teach to each individual child.

We have a child who just entered first grade and have been very happy with Brentwood. The teachers are professional and the students seem to enjoy learning and get a lot out of the school.

Great school. Committed teachers with a focus on progressive techniques.

It is a very good school, with good morals. And they offer a good choice of academics for the kids to particapate in.

Brentwood is a unique little school with a progressive philosophy. I enjoy teaching at the school and I know the students enjoy learning at the school.

Thank you Brentwood! I was paying a lot of money to send my two kids to a private school. I lost my job in 2001 & had to stop. My eldest was also developing a real 'tude about school. Little wonder. Turns out he was way behind in reading skills. The folks at Brentwood had him evaluated and placed in a tutoring program. Now he is only a few months 'behind'. And perhaps more importantly, enjoying school again! The private school took my money and wanted me to drug him when he acted up from frustration. Brentwood helped him instead. Thanks Folks!& God Bless You. -T

I can not say enough good things about this school. I find the staff, parents and volunteers willing to help in anyway possible as well as they keep a friendly/positive attitude! The school is well diversified in all aspects and I will greatly miss the feeling of comfort and education that you feel in the halls of this school everyday of the week, when my child moves on to middle school!

We have been very pleased with Brentwood. There are a lot of oppurtunities at the school to have different experiences. There is an active PTA and more parent involvement than our last school. I also like that it is small compared to other elementaries.

Brentwood is a great school. It is a small school where students get lots of individual attention. The multiage program is a smart program. The principal is gifted at picking and hiring wonderful teachers. We have been apart of the Brentwood family for eight years. The staff and teachers are outstanding. The parent involvement is very high. I can not say enough good about Brentwood.

My daughter attended K-5, and participated in G-T program. I volunteered each year to help with fieldtrips, etc. and found each team of multi-age teachers to be outstanding. Very positive experience and solid academic preparation for magnet programs in middle school. I was very impressed with the multi-age classroom possibilities.

Brentwood is a fantastic school! My daughter is in third grade in the multi-age program and loves school. Being with teachers for two years is very beneficial. Our teachers are the best and our parents are very involved.

Both of my children attend Brentwood Elementary. It's a hop skip and a jump from our home and we often walk to school with other kids and parents. The atmosphere is nurturing and progressive. Lots of potential for parent involvement and the kids and teachers seem to be pretty happy . I'd like to see more enrichment opportunities at the school and will work this year with the PTA and long-time principal, Mrs. Carter, to make sure more choices are added. The administration is open to new ideas in teaching and invites the parents to get involved. I'm thankful for our little school!!!!

Our experience at Brentwood has been very positive. The teachers are wonderful, with few exceptions. My son's teacher is just amazing and worked with us so well on some anxiety issues he developed. Brentwood has progressive programs lacking in other schools: multi-age classes with teachers who work as a team; the Tribes program, where children learn to work as a team; Lifeskills that emphasize traits such as integrity, friendship and humor. These programs happened because the principal is open to trying new things. My son is reading 1.5 years over grade level and comes home with so many interesting facts and questions that I know he s learning and his curiosity is being nurtured. It s a small, friendly school with diversity in ethnicity and family income, which is important to me. PTA is working hard to increase enrichment opportunities. I m involved and we do get support from teachers and the principal.

My son only went here for kindergarten and I couldn't wait for the school year to end so I could transfer him out. The leadership stinks and the teachers are left to make up for the principal's lack of leadership and indifference.

This is a terrific school! I love the multi-age program and the diversity of the students. The community is currently working on landscaping and beautifying Brentwood. The project is well thought out and promises outdoor classrooms, a community garden, a rain collection system and much more.
