Gullett Elementary School Reviews

The students at Gullett are friendly, polite, articulate, compassionate, and love to learn. The school environment is safe, nurturing and almost bully-free. I find it a pleasure to work with the teachers, parents, and administrative staff at Gullett.

Gullett is absolutely unique. My child attended school all over the country, and there is no place like Gullett. The gardens, the animals, the care that goes intoo making this school a beautiful, nurturing place for the kids, is awesome. Most elementary schools are fairly sterile and bland, though some might have a garden of some kind, but nothing like Gullett. Don't take this school for granted. It is the best elementary school my kids have ever attended.

One of the best schools in Austin. There is a home-like atmosphere due to the small student body size, teachers are caring and on top of new educational trends and my children are delighted to go to school every day of the year.

Great school! Lots of parent involvement, not pretentious or overly pressured in academics. Creative teachers. Fantastic librarian and physical education teachers in particular. All kids have Spanish lessons during school hours once or twice per week (funded by PTA). Lots of animals at the school. My two very different kids are doing great!

Teachers and parents are very enthusiastic. Parents are actively involved and willing to pitch in. Lots of fun activities to keep the interest level up. One complaint is an overload of forms, paperwork and notices (sometimes 3 or 4 versions for the same event or request) which is a little hard to manage.

A terrific and loving elementary school with a focus on nature (lots of gardens and animals). Gullett has been a great starting place for my kids.

This school needs a good reading program for the children! I am a parent with a dyslexic child and no great services were provided .What a shame.AISD gives no special funding for this. However the teachers at Gullett really do care.

A SCHOOL IS AS GOOD AS ITS PARENT INVOLVEMENT... THIS SCHOOL HAS IT!

Our 1st grader needs Speech services, but Gullett only staffs a part-time Speech therapist and it is difficult to qualify for help. Most of the teachers have been at Gullett for many years so, the environment is not progressive. The art and music teachers are not 'fun' according to my child. We recently learned that our child's reading level is well below the standard for 1st grade, yet she was passed and no special services were offered. I expressed my concerns several times during her Kinder year due to her lack of progress, but I was told by the teacher not to worry so much. Come to find out, I was right and now we are trying to decide what to do.

My daughter went to this school a few years ago and although it was for a very short time (we relocated) I wish she would have continued. The teachers are excellent and seems to really care about the children. More importantly, the administration at the school made every attempt to keep the number of children in a classroom to a reasonable amount. My daughter qualified for special education after the first semester, and she was provided every service available to her. Specifically she received speech, resource and her special ed teacher was available whenever I had a concern. Of course there are the wonderful arts including chorus, art and P.E., but now with limited funds with AISD, the district can only provide so many hours. All in all, I'd recommend this elementary school to any parent in or out of the neighborhood

While impressed with math and science programs, not impressed with recognition of reading prowess. My 1st grader tested at 5th grade level in reading. She did the same in kindergarten. Nobody at Gullett wanted to press the issue to see exactly where she stood with readng. Too bad.

My daughter attended Gullet for 4.5 years. I found it to be the most incredible school with a great staff and a nice and caring principal. I was so looking forward to her 5th grade at Gullett, when the school would be celebrating it's 50th year, but jobs changed and we moved. I highly recommend this school to anyone looking for quality public education in Austin. Mary M-O

We love our neighborhood and our community. We were looking forward to our son's first year at Gullett. Sorry to say, but we have been a little letdown. Although Gullett has a great physical environment and super parental involvement, we have been disappointed with the overall mentality of the school. There are alot of experienced but 'stuck in the mud' teachers at Gullett. Many of them have been teaching for a very long time and it seems as though they need to be re-energized or they should retire. Experience does not always equal innovation and this is our one major concern with the school. Maybe a new principal next year will change things.

If you are looking for a friendly, welcoming elementary school Gullett is the best pick in Austin. Gullett have a very unique atmosphere with plants, birds, bats, snakes, farrets, turtles, and other wonderful animals for the children to look at. Also the teachers are great! Some have been working there for 26+ years. The only reason they stay that long they have told me is because they just love it. The school is not overly large so the kids get one on one teaching. Trust me you will love it there!
