I have had issues with a few teachers. I notice that the more i call or visit the teacher, the more agitated he/she gets. They of course encourage you to do so, but i got the impression that is was not welcomed. We were however lucky to get a few really good caring teachers!! i agree with a few of the other reviews when it comes to the office personnel...Neither of them have customer service skills. Of the entire staff, I'd say maybe 5 are good teachers and the rest are either burnt out or just don't care. I feel that parent involvement is discouraged unless the teacher wants you to do for them. My child is new to this school (1st year)I have had several problems with my child's teacher belittleing my child and other children in the class room. The teacher has told me on several occasions that she just does not have time to spend with my child there are just to many kids in her class. I didn't notice he couldn't read very well when he started Palm. It was brought to my attention by his 1st grade teacher Ms. Stause. She was great! She called me and told me that he needed help, and she made sure he got it. She told me about an after school program. It was free, my son improved so much after that. He now likes to read on his own. I have no problems with the school, other than it is very crowded. I see the staff walking around and being involved. Thanks Palm for all that you do for are kids. The Director, Mrs. Silva-Quinn always makes herself available for parents and encourages feedback. The school offers parents help by providing a Support Specialist in charge of assisting families with special needs. The teachers, custodians, monitors, and the director are very friendly. The only staff that I consider needing improvement is the office staff, who sadly doesn t have very good customer service skills.” Posted By: parent Quality Score: 3 2004-08-18 “All teachers working very hard to make sure no kids fall through the cracks. I can see that it is challenging and frustrating since this school is very crowded. The classes are by far, not smaller than average. That is a very untrue statement. It should read, 'much larger than average.' Palm is very crowded because of all the new housing developments right next to it. Last year my child's class had 26 children. I have found that most of the teachers are great and caring people, I found that if you're a concerned parent it's a great place for the kids - If there's a problem, they call or email - If my kids are having a really great day - they call or email. When I drop them off in the morning - I don't feel insecure and worry if there's strange people standing around - There is always several teachers and/or parents there monitoring the well being of the kids. I know that my girls are safe and and in an excellent learning environment. Keep up the great work.” Posted By: parent Quality Score: 1 2004-05-31 “My son was enrolled in Pre-K this past year. After Spring Break, I removed him from school because after 6 months his teacher was still unable to control her students and her classroom was always filthy. On the way to the lunch room she would always walk in front of the students not monitoring their behavior in the hallway. When I would drive away from Palm I always felt like I was leaving my son at some sort of unmanaged correctional facility. They tell the parents what to do and do not ask for their opinions.”
